IF TODAY WERE THE CEILING
There’s a saying that goes around the AI world: today is the worst AI will ever be.
People say it as encouragement. It’s meant to mean the tools only get better from here.
I’ve watched that line land on a lot of business owners, and it doesn’t land as encouragement. It lands as a countdown. If it keeps getting better, and I haven’t started, then whatever I’d have to learn is growing every week I wait. That isn’t motivating. That’s paralyzing.
So let’s take the pressure off. Pretend it stops today.
Pretend the models never improve again. No new versions, no upgrades. This is it, forever.
Here’s what today already does.
Last week I took an instructional video from PuttingIsSimple.com, my golf instruction business. I handed it off, had it cut into short clips, had those clips scored for which ones would actually hold attention, wrote captions in my own voice for the ones I picked, loaded them into my scheduling platform, and put a week of Instagram posts on the calendar.
I never opened a video editor. I never opened the scheduler. I never went to a website. I did all of it from one window, the same window I write in.
Sit with that part. Not that AI is smart. You already know AI is smart. What changed is that I only had to be in one place.
For most people, that’s the actual barrier. It was never that the tools couldn’t do the work. It’s that using them meant learning six tools, remembering which one does what, and hauling your stuff between them. That’s the exhausting part. That’s the part that makes people say “I’ll get to it.”
One window removes it. You have one place you type. Your accounts connect to it. You ask for the outcome, and the work happens.
Now here’s the part that should actually take the pressure off.
The amount you have to learn does not grow when the models get better.
That’s the whole thing. You are not behind a moving target. You are behind one setup. When a better model shows up, it doesn’t add homework. The same window just does more, and you relearn nothing.
So I’ll say it plainly, because I think it’s the most useful thing I can tell you right now. If AI froze exactly where it is today, and every business owner reading this got one window set up properly, that alone would change how work gets done. We are nowhere close to using what already exists.
I’m not against progress. Better is coming and I’ll take it. And none of this is about one company. I run Claude, mostly Opus 5 and Fable 5, but you could build the same setup with OpenAI’s Codex or with Cursor. The window is the point, not the brand.
Two honest limits.
It doesn’t do everything, and you still have to know what you want. That’s a real skill, and it’s the one actually worth building.
And I believe a whole small business will eventually run out of one window. I haven’t proven that yet, so I’m calling it a belief, not a result.
But one person, one role, one department? That isn’t a prediction. I did it last week.
If you want the setup itself, I wrote it down. It’s the same one I run.
